Critical thinking: Story-related visual composition

The critical thinking lecture was introduced by Professors Oren Lieberman and Belinda Mitchell on February 24. Several logical details were provided, which involve critical thinking. First, Belinda Mitchell described the presentation on critical thinking, including what it entails, why it is significant for academic purposes, and how to use it.

Presentation of critical thinking

Critical thinking about the design challenge, creative thinking, research, analysis, design solutions evaluation, cooperation, and communication skills are all components of critical thinking. Identifying problems, analyzing their causes and effects, and proposing solutions that satisfy the project's criteria are all steps in the critical thinking process. The project is researched, including the site study, construction codes, and client requirements. Innovative solutions to design challenges can be developed through imaginative thinking, innovation, and creativity. Functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and cost are only a few of the criteria used in the evaluation of design ideas. Cooperation and communication are key to making sure the design solution satisfies the project's criteria. Design team members should work together and successfully express their ideas.

The academic study requires critical thinking since it helps students handle complicated problems, examine and evaluate data, come up with novel ideas, communicate clearly, and create sustainable constructions. Analysis, interpretation, evaluation, inference, creative thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork are the final critical thinking skills for academic research. For academic and other success, these abilities are crucial.

Our teacher gave a story, and there was talk about how this story was about understanding the story, applying relevance to the story, and doing the drawing composition. This story took five minutes to comprehend, and five minutes were spent on the composition. Really it was a short time that case I had confused about what I can do. It was only a short time that I was perplexed about what I could do. First of all, I read this short story. It was written by Nike Romano and provided basic background information on fashion theory.

The chapter is by Nike Romano. Nonetheless, I can see how Karen Barad's fashion beliefs fit into her larger philosophical worldview. As a philosopher of science, Barad is concerned with how knowledge is created and how scientific methods affect our perception of reality. She highlights in her writing how crucial it is to understand how matter and meaning are intertwined and how knowledge is always positioned within certain social, historical, and cultural contexts. Barad's theories can be used to understand how clothing and other material objects are not merely passive and inert but rather intertwined with social and cultural practices in the context of fashion. Fashion is influenced by broader societal and cultural conventions and values rather than just being a question of personal preference or style. Along with how we may create more socially just and environmentally responsible methods of knowing and being, Barad is also concerned with the ethical and political ramifications of scientific knowledge. In the domain of fashion, this entails a shift towards more sustainable and ethical practices as well as awareness of the environmental and social effects of fashion production and consumption.

Then I created a drawing composition based on the themes of this story.

Visual composition and story are related

The composition object has an impact on cultural and social norms. This viewpoint contends that non-human objects and materialities are linked with human subjects in performative and co-structural ways rather than serving as the only agents reshaping the world. This is an example of conventional clothing on a contemporary stage. Although the human figure is an abstract artwork, it is connected to the outline fashion figure. The social barriers' background texture is simply their systematic, predictable course.

Ultimately, Barad's theories provide a rich and intricate framework for comprehending how matter, meaning, and social practices are intertwined in the context of fashion as well as for creating more moral and just approaches to fashion theory and practice.

About the composition discussion

A different version of the story was discussed by our teachers. The philosophy of identity, culture, tradition, history, power, and self-expression in the narrative is its primary focus. There was a different plot idea. The significance of taking into account the ways in which material items and technologies play a more active role in influencing human experience and behavior than just serving as tools. Posthumanist performativity strives to undermine anthropocentric worldviews and advance more ecologically conscious and inclusive ways of thinking and doing by acknowledging the agency of non-human actors.

  1. Great to see you thinking into the work of Karen Barad and thinking beyond the Antroprocene. Keep reading into Barad's work - how does it impact on your design practice?
