Wymering Manor HouseThe historic home in Portsmouth is intended to be reopened by the Wymering Manor Trust so that tourists can readily reach it. Wymering Manor has long been a focal point of the neighborhood despite being a private residence. In the past, the house and grounds were frequently accessible to inhabitants thanks to a variety of events and gatherings that the private owners staged. The trust thinks that by repairing and reopening the structure, tourists will be better able to appreciate the significance of the home in relation to its earlier surroundings.
The senior instructors Belinda Mitchell and Rokhshid Ghaziani took us on a field excursion to Wymering Manor House in Portsmouth's historic neighborhood in week 03 so we could dive deep into the study of creativity, history, and Interior Architectural beauty.
A Startling First Impression of The Architectural
When we arrived at Wymering Manor, we were pleasantly surprised by its magnificent exterior architecture, which contrasted with my first expectations of a Gothic house and featured a gorgeous white building with black trim and brown shingles. I'm intrigued by the mansion's distinctive exterior and interior, which has sparked my curiosity.

As we delved upstairs, the ominous atmosphere intensified, with the creaks and uneven floors beneath us indicating the weight of history. The author reflected on the past steps and the experiences of others in the corridors, feeling uneasy but determined to explore further.
The Blindfolded Adventure
We were to use just our senses of touch, hearing, and imagination to explore Wymering Manor's outdoor surroundings. Belinda's plan was straightforward but exciting. I was excited to take on the task when my classmate Afrin was blindfolded. I was becoming excited as she adjusted the blindfold because I was curious about the secrets the mansion held and the pleasures that lay in store for us.
Experiencing Wymering Through Touch and Sound
When our vision was obscured, the world took on a new dimension. I nervously reached out and touched the manor's cold, harsh exterior walls. Each stone seemed old and ancient because it was speaking tales from earlier eras. In an effort to decipher their past solely via touch, I ran my fingertips over the intricate carvings.
I came across various materials as I moved slowly—some were rounded, others were jagged. Each touch elicited a new set of feelings and allowed my mind to concoct pictures of the manor's construction and the skilled craftsmen who had toiled to make it. The feeling of moss-covered stones underfoot conveyed nature's tenacious pursuit of what was once hers.
The aromas in the air were quite enticing. The musty smell of old stone blended with the earthy smell of the forest floor. These smells took me back in time and gave me the impression that ancient spirits were all about me.
Using imagination when drawing
The chance to create a drawing of the house from our imaginations was one of this journey's most distinctive features. I tried to sketch Wymering Manor as it appeared in my mind's eye using a sketchbook and pencil. My lines and strokes flowed effortlessly, reflecting the feelings and experiences I had received through my senses without being constrained by the limitations of visible reality.

My journey at Wymering Manor was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Belinda's creative strategy of using a blindfold to explore the manor's exterior opened me to a world of sensations and imagination I had never experienced before. I left Wymering Manor with a renewed respect for the importance of touch, sound, and scent in evoking a sense of place and the stories that surround it. I will always remember that day of sensory overload, and I can't wait to go back to this enigmatic location to do more exploring.
