The concept of matter and materiality

We are in the sixth week of this class blog. Firstly, this session was with our tutor Rachael Brown, to talk to our group about the Blog, Interior design practice Project, and observation in our visiting Portsmouth city viewpoint. Rachael Brown, our tutor, spoke about the interior project, including our project concept, city tour of Portsmouth, and project thinking. Everyone engaged in dialogue with the tutor while expressing their ideas and emotions.

I related my experience, which involved the city of Portsmouth. Interestingly, one of my main areas of interest is parks, including urban parks, community parks, and private parks. Looking at this region, we can see that the house layout follows a planned grid and preserves the surrounding natural environments. The primary duty is to preserve nature. The trees, sea, open space, historical sites, and other natural objects make up the majority of Portsmouth's natural features. Another is that Portsmouth is most known for its port city and nearby seaside. In that situation, a traveler to Portsmouth has only been there for the prior portion of their vacation or free time. The public takes pleasure in similar activities on Saturday and Sunday of each week. In that situation, I believe that the majority of the populace will spend this time enjoying food, drink, and other activities.

                                                                     Seaside area

My main area of interest in this viewpoint is community members who connect the neighborhood and its surroundings and provide them with everyday activities. It has a lot of things, but in my opinion, they need some sort of activity to change their everyday lives. The chosen location will be near the seaside dining area that connects to the green. One of the best places to interact with neighbors is a cafe. The cafe setting is comparable to a park for social gatherings.

Rokhshid Ghaziani, our instructor, presented Materialism: Matter and Materiality. Materialism is the emphasis on the physical qualities and traits of materials during the design process in the field of interior architecture. High-quality, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing materials are given priority in the designs of interior architects who follow the materialist worldview. In the field of interior architecture, the term "new materialism" refers to a design philosophy that places a focus on the use of environmentally friendly and durable materials as well as the integration of technology and innovation It differs from conventional design methods that put sustainability second to aesthetics.

                                           Materialism: Matter and Materiality Presentation

Materiality in interior architecture refers to both the importance or significance of the materials used in a design and the quality of being material or physical. Texture, color, shape, and other physical characteristics of materials can all be used to represent materiality.

                                                            Different types of Texture

Materiality is significant in the design process of interior architecture since it can impact a space's usability, attractiveness, and longevity. High-quality materials, such as natural stone or oak, can add value and durability to a space while giving it a posh, sophisticated vibe.

These days, a raw industrial finish is concrete. A design with natural warmth is given a contemporary, sharp edge by concrete. Concrete on a roll is offered with a shuttered finish, which shows the impression of the timber shuttering on the product's surface, or with a plain poured finish.

In conclusion, materialism, and materiality are crucial ideas in the field of interior architecture because they direct designers in their choice and application of materials to produce environments that are useful, beautiful, and long-lasting.
